Mirror

I once had a mirror
The most beautiful mirror you’d ever seen
Bright and beautiful
Shining like a crystal

Then one day, someone broke the mirror in two
Although I cried about the damage
Easily I put the mirror back together
And it was good as new

But the mirror was broken again
In three, and four and five
Again and again
I put the mirror back together

But after the last time the mirror was broken
It was the most painful to put back together
The shards cut my hands
And my fingers bled into the glass

So many shards, trying to piece together
So much blood, split while trying to repair
How naïve I am to continue such a task
When some things are never meant to be restored

And yet I go on
Always breaking
Always repairing
Always bleeding
This broken mirror called Hope
